How This Scientist Reconciled Her Scientific Views and Newfound Faith

Before You Read ...

Dear reader,

A new poll shows that for young adults in particular, belief in God is plummeting. From research, we know a primary driver behind a loss of faith among young people is the church’s rejection of science. To put it bluntly: Young people aren’t leaving the faith because of science, they’re leaving because they’ve been told to choose between science and God. That’s why BioLogos exists—to show that science and faith can work hand-in-hand. And although the challenge is clearly daunting, our work is having an impact!

As a nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of grassroots donors like you to reach those who are being told, “It’s God or evolution!” or “It’s God or vaccines!” or “It’s God or science!” In this urgent moment, we need your help to continue to produce resources such as this.

BioLogos’ commitment to nurturing the harmony between science and faith has not only been greatly inspiring to me, but has also been monumental in building my faith in Jesus Christ.

While growing up, I was raised with the notion that religious practices should not be imposed upon a child by his/her parents, thus the world of faith and religion was not something I considered much. As an aspiring scientist, I focused my attention on my studies and found peace in understanding the world through the eyes of science. While I believed in God, I didn’t really know what that meant or looked like and wasn’t sure how that fit in with my scientific views. While I was continuing my studies as a student, getting my PhD in biochemistry only pushed my endeavors for understanding faith and religion farther from the forefront of my mind.

That was my course until I was faced with my fair share of hardships and began questioning whether a career in scientific research was really what I wanted to pursue. Through the love of my father and the friendship of a colleague that God put in my path, I finally turned to the Lord with a rather cynical heart. I was still unsure how I would be able to reconcile my scientific views and newfound faith until I discovered BioLogos.

The resources available on the BioLogos website allowed me to realize that many scientists have found harmony between faith and science. These resources fueled my hunger to learn more about our Creator and stirred a passion in me to be an advocate for the unity between science and faith and to help others.

I am forever grateful for the mission of BioLogos and all of the resources this ministry provides. My life would not be same without this organization.
