This event has been postponed.

BioLogos Advisor Denis Alexander will present “Are We Slaves to Our Genes” on Thursday, April 2, 2020 in Deerfield, Illinois.

“This lecture will discuss how human genetic variation relates to behavioral variation, sometimes leading to the idea that our lives represent a competition between genetic and environmental influences in which the genes invariably win. However, contemporary developmental biology points to a more integrated view of human personhood. This brings the science into a natural conversation with theology via the ancient idea of humankind made in the image of God. This powerful framework for understanding human identity guarantees the value of each individual irrespective of their genetic endowment and highlights the moral responsibilities placed upon humankind, involving genuine choice. Far from being slaves to our genes, it is our human DNA that contributes so powerfully to the human development that leads to genuine free will.”
