If anyone needs to be disabused of the notion that brilliant and accomplished scientists can’t be humble people of deep Christian faith and character, see Exhibit A: Dr. Jimmy Lin.

I like to call myself actually a scientific doxologist—I feel like my science is my way of worship and praise of God.

If anyone needs to be disabused of the notion that brilliant and accomplished scientists can’t be humble people of deep Christian faith and character, see Exhibit A: Dr. Jimmy Lin.

Lin is an MD/PhD who pioneered genome-wide sequencing of human cancers. He’s helped develop blood-based DNA tests for early detection and monitoring of cancer. And he also founded the Rare Genomics Institute, which connects patients who have rare diseases with cutting-edge research within a supportive community.

We sat down with Lin during a recent visit to Grand Rapids and asked him (among other things) about his research, how working with patients influences his research, and how his faith influences the way he does science.

Want to know more about Lin’s work on orphan diseases and  what he means by calling himself a “scientific doxologist,” check out our 2013 interview.
