Dr. Denis Lamoureux, who holds doctoral degrees in both biology and theology, has produced a free 5-session online course for high schoolers and homeschoolers entitled, “Science & Faith: Beyond the Evolution and Creation Debate”. His presentation includes an introduction to the origins debate and examines what he calls the “five basic views of origins: young earth creation, progressive creation, evolutionary creation, deistic evolution, and atheistic evolution.” The course includes audio lectures, PowerPoint slides, and handouts covering topics such as “The Bible & Ancient Science” and “Intelligent Design,” and “Galileo the Theologian: Science & Religion Insights for Today”. As a Christian and an evolutionary biologist, I support with enthusiasm the work of BioLogos as part of my personal commitment to nurture dialog (dia-Logos!) between science and the Christian faith. I identify most strongly with the organization’s eleventh article of belief (“What we believe”): We believe that conversations among Christians about controversial issues of science and faith can and must be conducted with humility, grace, honesty, and compassion as a visible sign of the Spirit’s presence in Christ’s body, the Church.
