BioLogos Voices speaker Ted Davis will present "Why History Matters: Exposing the Ideological Roots of the 'Conflict' Model of Christianity and Science" at the Tandy Institute for Archeology on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
"This lecture confronts the common belief that science and Christianity have long been engaged in an ongoing, inevitable conflict. Proponents of this view typically make false historical claims in an effort to prove their case. Dr. Davis shows how and why two nineteenth-century American scholars- chemist John William Draper of NYU and historian Andrew Dickson White, the first president of Cornell University- promoted the historical myth of constant conflict between science and religion. He also explains why modern scholars have almost entirely rejected it as ideologically motivated propaganda rather than genuine history."
