So what is BioLogos? Well it all began with a scientist and a book.

 

How did God create the ingredients for life?

God could have created a fertile planet miraculously in an instant, but when we look carefully at the physical evidence, it appears that the earth has a longer history as part of the universe.

 

What about the Bible?

What we do learn from scripture is that there is only one Creator and that there’s a clear distinction between God and the created world. And that we who are created in the image of God are able to investigate a creation that is remarkably tuned for our discovery.

An Enriched Creation

Scripture gives us multiple ways of looking at things, and a classic example of this is the parables of Jesus. Many of these involve looking at nature. For example, natural events like seeds growing—and what Jesus seems to be saying is look there is a surface reading of nature—and then there is the deeper reading, where you begin to realize there are levels of meaning that we don’t pick up on our first acquaintance.

In this talk, Professor Plantinga addresses the fact that many contemporary thinkers—including many theologians—believe that God cannot perform miracles, providentially guide history, or interact in the lives of people, as these activities would be contrary to science. Plantinga, on the other hand, makes the case that this popular view is mistaken; excluding divine action in the world is not a central feature of natural science itself, but a philosophical or theological preference that has been added on to science (and can just as readily be removed). Plantinga concludes that it is completely logical to accept the miracles of the Bible and support contemporary science.
