Series: Excerpts from “Evolving: Evangelicals Reflect on Evolution” (9 entries)

We need to hear stories from others who have wrestled with evolution and Christian faith. What arguments made them change their views on science? How did they hold fast to their relationship with God? The essays in this series will eventually comprise a book, provisionally titled, “Evolving: Evangelicals Reflect on Evolution.”

Where are the Transitional Fossils?

A common argument leveled against the theory of evolution is that scientists have not been able to produce transitional fossils that show the change of one species into another. In this podcast, we address a common misconception about what transitional fossils actually are.

Speciation and Macroevolution

A common challenge to evolutionary theory is that while life does indeed change over time (what is known as microevolution), no one has ever seen one species evolve into another species (macroevolution).

In the last verses of Romans 2, the Apostle Paul relates the “failure of religion because of the terrible beauty of the Law” to the need for a regenerate heart.

Saturday Sermon: Heart of Darkness

In the Garden of Eden, Eve is tempted to put her own desires ahead of God’s call for her life. The serpent tells her that if she eats of the fruit she can become like God: she, in essence, can become the master of her own fate.

Saturday Sermon: The First Wedding Day

The ordained and blessed tradition of marriage is established in Genesis 2: 18-25. This passage communicates important ideas, Dr. Keller affirms, about both marriage seeking and marriage executing. When considered, these concepts will allow one to be successful in both areas.

Saturday Sermons: The Garden of God

Genesis 2:2-17 places an interesting emphasis on work—not only does God work to bring about all creation, but also, man is called to the task of caring for God’s world.

The Reason for God

In this tightly reasoned defense of faith, Keller challenges the doubts of atheists and skeptics on their own terms.

Nature's Witness

Harrell presents an accessible, thought-provoking exploration of evolution's witness to the God of creation.

Only a Theory

Ken Miller's book addresses some of the key assertions of advocates of Intelligent Design.

Evolution

"Larson has written a brilliant introduction to the history of evolution, equally sensitive to scientific, religious, and social factors. It is, hands down, the most readable and reliable account available." -Ronald L. Numbers

Life's Solution

Conway Morris presents biological proofs and explanations of convergence which implies a metaphysical reason for life.

Darwin and Design

Ruse examines the concept of 'design' in nature, explaining why it still remains a strong influence despite the scientific revolution, and historically, how it dominated Western thought from ancient Greece (Plato) to the advent and predominance of Christianity.

Darwin: The Life of a Tormented Evolutionist

"Darwin, his family, his colleagues, and his milieu come alive in this book. . . . Superbly written." — Everett Menselson, Harvard University
