Ernest Lucas has an MA in Chemistry from Oxford University and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Kent. He did post-doctoral work in biochemistry in the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Oxford University before studying Theology at Oxford. After being ordained as a Baptist, he later obtained a PhD in Oriental Studies from Liverpool University. Lucas was Associate Director of the Institute for Contemporary Christianity in London before moving to Bristol Baptist College, where he is Vice-Principal and Tutor in Biblical Studies. The course he teaches on Science and Christianity has received a Templeton award, as has a paper he has published on "Science, Wisdom, Eschatology and the Cosmic Christ." Among his recent books are Can We Believe Genesis Today? – which explores the major interpretations of the first chapters of Genesis – and Think God, Think Science (co-authored with Michael Pfundner) – which explores how we should think of God in an age of modern science.
