Videocast: It’s an Old World After All

In my experience, many believers have a difficult time reconciling their faith with an Old Earth model. I know I did. I had never researched the scientific methods underlying the dating process, nor did I understand how it could be reconciled to the Genesis account in God’s Word. So I generally avoided the topic. If it did come up in conversations within Christian circles, the dialogue served to poke holes in the idea of an Old Earth with little or no evaluation of the extensive research surrounding the question in the scientific realm. This was an unhealthy way to confront an idea that did not readily fit into my worldview because it allowed me to feel satisfied with my position on the argument without any true investigation on my part. However, as a believer, I am called to search out truth in a matter, and this requires understanding the various aspects of the issue and turning to God in His Word for guidance. The search for truth is a continual process, but it is important to wrestle with these issues and take the time to understand them with a right perspective that will bear witness to God’s Truth and my relationship with Jesus Christ.

With this in mind, the intention of this videocast is to explain the independent methods used by scientists to determine the age of the earth in order to equip Christians with a framework for understanding this issue. My hope is that this videocast would not only provide an answer about the earth’s age, but also provoke questions that spur others on their own quests for truth.
