From Our Inbox: October 2013
Once in a while, we like to share some uplifting stories that we receive in our inbox. What a blessing it is to know that our mission of exploring and celebrating the compatibility of science and Christian faith is taking root in so many people’s lives. This particular story came to us in early October from an individual in the Texas area. He writes:
I just wanted to write and let you know how much I love you guys. Your commitment to truth truly bolsters my faith that I'm not the only one out there.
I was a young earth creationist until my mid-30s when I actually went to college and took some science classes. The difference (I think) between me and a lot of young people who lose their faith with education is that I had had so much more time to see God at work in so many ways in my life over time, that education simply EXPANDED my view of God instead of limiting or weakening it. In other words, my faith in God came from real experience WITH Him, as opposed to simply a set of objective beliefs ABOUT Him. Learning that I had been wrong did nothing to take away from His glory, but only added to it.
Unfortunately, I have felt singular and alone for the last six or seven years as a result. My family (except for my sons) are all still pretty staunchly young earth creationists. My hope in finding a "conservative" evangelical church that is open to theistic evolution as a viable belief for a Bible-believing Christian is growing thinner by the day. So thanks so much for this website! I love how many articles are completely bereft of sarcasm and ridicule! You exhibit patient and loving support even to those who still disagree, in my view a powerful testament to the presence of the Holy Spirit in your organization!
