BioLogos in the News
In addition to our original content on our blog, the BioLogos team has been busy writing for other Christian publications!
In late April, BioLogos president Deborah Haarsma and program director Kathryn Applegate were quoted in a Christianity Today article on homeschooling titled “A New Creation Story”. The article notes that while most Christian homeschooling parents teach Young Earth Creationist views to their children, more and more parents are seeking textbooks and materials that integrate science and faith in a way that acknowledges and incorporates the findings of mainstream science on such topics. As author Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra writes:
Numbers on the trend are hard to pin down. Still, BioLogos president Deborah Haarsma says that it's "fairly common" for homeschooling families to request materials from her organization, which promotes theistic evolution. Some of these parents still believe in a young earth, says program director Kathryn Applegate, but they want their children exposed to different perspectives.

President Haarsma has also contributed an essay to the Spring 2013 edition of Fuller Theology, News & Notes. Originally written for the Ministry Theorem, the essay, titled “Engaging Science in the Life of Your Congregation”, offers advice on how ministry leaders can help “develop a better appreciation of God’s revelation in nature.” Among her suggestions:
Beyond Sunday morning worship and preaching, science can show up in many areas of church life. During a youth camping trip or church picnic, include a nature walk concluded with praise. After a winter evening worship service, invite a local amateur astronomer to set up a telescope in the parking lot to show people the moon and planets. Convert a vacant lot near church into a community garden, so kids can experience firsthand how God provides food from the Earth.

Lastly, we’re proud to debut two new television commercials, produced by director Ryan Pettey, that feature Jeff Schloss, Alister McGrath, and N.T. Wright. The commercials will be featured online and (hopefully) on air later this year!
