Our Take on the Ham/Nye Debate
With the recent public interest in the Ken Ham vs. Bill Nye debate on February 4, we wanted to share with the world that these two extreme positions are not the only options. Our recent blog posts discussing the debate (Ken Ham vs. Bill Nye and Ham on Nye: Our Take) brought tremendous traffic to our site. As of February 26, 2014, both posts combined had nearly 30,000 unique pageviews and it continues to grow. During the debate, the traffic on our site jumped to nearly 100 people at any one moment. And the morning after the debate was astounding, ranging between 200 and 250 readers to our website at any one moment.
Social media traffic was also high. Facebook posts sharing our response to the debate have been shared over 200 times. The group GC Science (with over 400,000 likes) has linked to us on Facebook along with Think Christian, Test of Faith, Patheos, and The American Conservative. The latter of these groups featured an article that was retweeted and shared over 300 times and Patheos shared a video clip featuring Pat Robertson as he makes the statement “just because we have progressive evolution under God’s control – that doesn’t hurt my faith at all.”
During the debate, BioLogos was busy tweeting responses. This was our first foray into sending live responses to a public event and we were amazed at the response (see some tweets below).
We pray that people will dig deeper and come to a richer understanding of the truths God has revealed in creation and in the Bible.
