So You Want to Be a Scientist?

A panel at the recent Laureate Lectures at Lindau offered their tips to young people about what it takes to succeed in the world of science. The panel, which featured 2007 Nobel Prize for Medicine winner Oliver Smithies, 1996 Prize for Chemistry winner Sir Harold W. Kroto, and Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, 2008 winner of the Prize for Medicine, offered five main pieces of advice:

  • Play Hard
  • Learn to Translate What You Do for Others
  • Make Time for Your Family
  • Collaboration Goes Both Ways
  • Know When to Stop
