Dr. Francis Collins has been confirmed by a unanimous vote of the Unites States Senate as the new director of the National Institutes of Health, a government agency responsible for $30 billion a year in biomedical funding. In accepting the position, Dr. Collins will be resigning as president of the BioLogos Foundation. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius made the official announcement, stating that “Dr. Collins will be an outstanding leader. Today is an exciting day for NIH and for science in this country.”
The BioLogos Foundation has previously voiced their support for their founder’s nomination to lead the nation’s premier medical research organization in an official press release. In light of his confirmation, Darrel Falk has posted an official response on our blog Science & the Sacred to discuss the Foundation’s future.
