Creationists Call for Inclusion at Irish Natural Landmark

June 11, 2010

The Caleb Foundation, a Christian organization, has asked museum officials at Giant’s Causeway, an area of 40,000 interlocking basalt columns located in Northern Ireland, to include creationist explanations for the rock formation. According to foundation chairman Wallace Thompson, “All we are asking for is that the views that we hold, which are based on the Word of God, are at least respected and taken on board.”

Social Democratic and Labor Party official Alban Maginnis, however, feels such an inclusion would be ill-advised. “You are talking about a visitors’ centre which will attract people from all over the world,” said Maginnis. “It will be dealing with the natural sciences in relation to the Giant’s Causeway. I do not think it would be appropriate in these circumstances to have a very narrow religious view expressed.”
